Typography Logo Assignment


QUESTIONS for each logo:
  1. Using the terms we learned from our Typography Study Questions explain the typeface that you see. Is the type in serifSans serif? BoldItalic? ALL CAPS? Script? etc.?
  2. Do you think the design and typography of the logo works? Why? Or Why not?
  3. Who do you think the target audience is for this company/ logo? How is the design specific for them?
  4. What feeling/ emotion does the logo display? Use the image below to help you. 




    Abercrombie and Fitch:
    1.Serif
    2.It works because it is simple and it matches the color of the picture.
    3.Young adults because it has a catchy name and the design isn't too complicated.
    4.It displays trust and dependable strength.
    DC:
    1.Sans Serif, Bold, all caps.
    2.It works because it is a unique design that makes you look twice.
    3.Teens and young adults because it is an easy to remember design.
    4.Balance and calmness.
    Diamond Supply Co.:
    1.Part of it all caps, bold, script.
    2.It works because the colors look good together and it makes you want to look at it again.
    3.Teens because it has a pleasing appearance and nice colors.
    4.Trust, strength, balance, and calmness.
    Lulu Lemon:
    1.No font.
    2.It works because it’s a simple, easy to remember design.
    3.All ages because it makes anyone want to know what it is and how it represents itself.
    4.Excitement and boldness.
    Forever 21:
    1.All caps. Top part is bold and Serif. Bottom part is Sans Serif.
    2.It works because it’s a simple, easy design but is still appealing.
    3.Teens and young adults because it says forever 21 so it makes that specific age group want to know more about it.
    4.Balance and calmness.
    Edmonton Oilers:
    1.Bold, Sans Serif, all caps.
    2.It incorporates a lot of colors and it’s a unique design that explains the ‘oiler’ part of the name because of the oil drop.
    3.Anyone who is interested in hockey because it says the name of the team in the logo so that makes it easier.
    4.Excitement, boldness, trust, strength, and optimism.
    Calgary Flames:
    1.Bold, all caps.
    2.It catches the eye right away but it could be better for non hockey fans if there was the name of the team so they would be more interested.
    3.Anyone who is interested in hockey because they would know the team and it catches your eye because of the bold, bright color.
    4.Excitement, boldness, optimism, and warmth.
    Montreal Canadians:
    1.Bold, all caps.
    2.It works if you already know that it was a hockey team but if I had no clue about hockey, that symbol would be confusing for me. So it could use a word in it of the actual team.
    3.Anyone who is interested in hockey because they would know what team it was.
    4.Excitement, strength, and balance.
    Saskatchewan Roughriders:
    1.Serif, all caps.
    2.It works because it represents Saskatchewan with the wheat and the green. It also catches the eye of anyone who scans over it.
    3.Anyone who is interested in football because it has a catchy look and it stands out.
    4.Balance, peace and health.
    Toronto Maple leafs:
    1.Bold, Sans Serif, all caps.
    2.It works because the symbol is a leaf, hence ‘maple leaf’. It is a simple and  little boring though.
    3.Anyone who is interested in hockey would know about it and maybe want to see what the symbol is all about.
    4.Trust, strength and dependence.
    McDonalds:
    1.All caps, Sans Serif.
    2.It works because the colors work well together and it has an exciting appearance.
    3.All ages because it is colorful for younger people, and older people will want to know more about it if they didn't already.
    4.Optimism, warmth, clarity, excitement, and boldness.
    Starbucks:
    1.All caps, bold, sans serif.
    2.It works because there aren't too many colors mixing together and it has an interesting design in the middle that makes you look twice.
    3.Young adults because it has a bold appearance.
    4.Peace and health.
    Subway:
    1.Bold, all caps, sans serif.
    2.It works because it is simple with a few colors that make it appealing.
    3.All ages because it is catchy and not too crazy for everyone.
    4.Optimism, peace and health.
    Tim Hortons:
    1.Script.
    2.The design works well all together because it is simple, yet catchy and looks interesting.
    3.All ages because it looks bold and pleasant at the same time.
    4.Excitement, youthful and warmth.
    Yogen Fruz:
    1.Sans serif.
    2.The design works because it is colorful, simple, interesting and has a unique look.
    3.Young adults and teens because of its ‘cute’ look and colorfulness.
    4.Trust, strength and creative.
    Call of Duty MW3:
    1.All caps, bold, sans serif.
    2.It works because it makes the words pop out using the right colors.
    3.Teens because it has a youthfulness and theme about it that teenage people would be excited to look into more.
    4.Growth and balance.
    Guitar Hero:
    1.All caps, serif.
    2.The design works because it looks bold and it meshes well together while still being simple.
    3.Teens because it is very bold and exciting and it makes you look at it for a while.
    4.Balance and calmness.
    Temple Run 2:
    1.All caps, bold, sans serif.
    2.It works because it has certain scenery and an interesting layout.
    3.Teens because it makes you more interested and most people would want to know more.
    4.Optimism, clarity, and health.
    Super Mario:
    1.Bold, all caps, sans serif.
    2.It works because even though there are a lot of colors throughout the words, there is a simple background so it isn’t too crazy.
    3.Kids because there are a lot of colors and it looks cartoon like.
    4.Strength, health and excitement.
    Just Dance 4:
    1.All caps, bold, and sans serif.
    2.It works because it a simple design and it doesn't have a lot of crazy colors.
    3.Teens because it has a simple phrase and its not to bold so they would want to know more about what the logo is representing.
    4.Balance and calmness.
    Sephora:
    1.All caps, sans serif.
    2.It works because it’s not meant to be crazy and it is very unique and interesting to look at. If I didn't know what the logo represented, I would want to find out.
    3.Teens and adults because it is an interesting word to see on a logo and it makes them want to know more.
    4.Balance and Calmness.
    Victoria’s Secret:
    1.All caps. Serif.
    2.It works because all the patterns look nice together and I think lots of people would want to know more.
    3.Teens and adults because it is a mature but not boring designs that are colorful and playful.
    4.Creative, wise and youthful.
    The Vampire Diaries:
    1.Sans serif.
    2.It works because the design makes sense with the words. The red represents dripping blood which relates to vampires. And it also looks mysterious which is appealing to the audience.
    3.Teens and young adults because that is the age group that is the most into vampires and suspense and wondering.
    4.Balance, excitement and it is youthful.
    MTV:
    1.All caps, half sans serif, half script.
    2.It works because it is a simple design for the TV network and it looks youthful and interesting without being boring.
    3.Teens because it has a youthful feel and it looks bold and it stands out.
    4.Balance and calmness.
    Bath & Body Works:
    1.Sans serif.
    2.It works because it looks interesting how the words are pressed together and the symbol ‘&’ makes it more likely to attract the audience incorporated with the nice colors too.
    3.Teens and adults because it doesn't look too young but it doesn't look too mature.
    4.Trust, dependence and strength.
