Color Theory


a) Primary Colours-they aren’t created by a combination of colors. They are unique and are used to mix with each other to make secondary colors. Red, yellow and blue.

b) Primary Colour Red- it’s a hot color. It represents power, love, passion, anger, or violence. It’s generally used to emphasize.

c) Primary Colour Blue- Represents calmness and responsibility. It’s associated with sadness in English.

d) Primary Colour Yellow-Happiness and cheerfulness. It’s the brightest of the warm colors.

e) Secondary Colours- All secondary colors are combinations of Primary colors. such as green, purple and orange.

f) Secondary Colours Purple- It’s a combination of red and blue. It represents creativity and imagination.

g) Secondary Colours Orange- It is vibrant and energetic. It’s used in the place of red without being too over powering. It is associated with seasons changing.

h) Secondary Colours Green-It is a down to earth color. It is calming but it also has the energy of yellow combined with blue.

i) warm colours-They include red, orange and yellow. They are passionate, positive and energizing.

j) cool colours-calming relaxing and reserved. Consists of green, blue and purple. All cool colors are a combination of blue and a warm color.

k) Neutrals- They are often used as backdrops with brighter colors surrounding them. They are greatly affected by the colors around them.

Black- It’s strongest of all neutral colors. It is used in edgy and elegant designs. It is the color of mourning in western countries.

White- works well with all colors. Makes the other colors around it stand out more. Used on wedding days and in the health care industry. It is associated with goodness, cleanliness, and purity.

Gray- depending on the shade of grey, it can be used in places of black/white. It is associated with professionalism, modern, moody or depressing.

 Brown- generally used as a background color. It is associated with the earth, wood, warmth and dependability. It’s a natural and warm color.

 Beige- generally used for backgrounds. It takes on the characteristics of the colors surrounding it. It is a combination of brown and white.
